Climate change proxies in organic sediments

The activity of the group focuses on the study of plaeoenvironmental proxies in peats and other organic-rich sediments. Emphasis is put on understanding the factors affecting the changes in vegetation and in the preservation of organic matter, contributing to a better definition of the parameters and their capacities as palaeoclimate indicators. The work focuses on the study of geochemical fossils and organic petrography, disciplines in which the members of the group have been working over the last 20 years. The group was created in 2009 for giving greater visibility to this research line framed within the CSIC strategic area Energy and Climate Change. The focus is different to the previous work on evaluation of fossil fuels and their behavior in industrial processes carried out for many years and linked to the petrography laboratory at INCAR.
