CHEMICAL BIOLOGY

Our research group is formed by three staff scientists, They perform an interdisciplinary and complementary research that touches the fields of Chemical Biology and Pharmacology, oriented to the study of the regulation of reproductive functions in mammals. Besides, one technician currently add to the group personnel, with the help, in some instances, of a technician of the IIQ staff. In particular the research focuses on the participation of the tachykinin peptide family in the regulation of sperm functions such as capacitation, motility or acrosome reaction, as well as the chemical modifications that go along these phenomena. Currently, the study has been extended to ovarian granulosa and cumulus cells, the first female cells that interact with spermatozoa. To study the activity of tachykinins, we used molecular biology techniques, with the assistance of flow cytometry and spectroscopic techniques.
