Cajal Platform-Brain Pathology and Neurodegeneration

The Brain Pathology and Neurodegeneration group is part of the Cajal Platform, whose primary goal is to advance knowledge of the brain’s structural characteristics and their pathological alterations. Specifically, our group is interested in studying the histopathological features and structural alterations of neurons underlying the major human neurological diseases. In particular, we place special emphasis on Alzheimer’s disease, currently recognized as the leading cause of dementia worldwide. Deepening our understanding of these alterations and their pathological basis is essential for the development of effective therapies and, for improving patients’ quality of life.
