Biodiversity and Plant Evolution

This group develops a synthesis discipline and uses data from different fields of biology: anatomical, karyological, cytogenetic, geographic, molecular, morphological, ecological niche, palynological and chemical. All of them are treated together to obtain a global vision of the plant species. Our main interest is in working on biodiversity, systematics and evolution of different taxa complexes, especially from the Compositae family. In addition, the group develops studies in the field of conservation of plant diversity, biogeography and phylogeography, and pays main attention to the processes behind evolutionary history, diversification or speciation. Along these lines, evolutionary radiation is of great study interest in our group because it is processes that involve a very high biodiversity as an explosive diversification of a large number of species occurs in a short time.
