Nuclear and High Energy Astrophysics

The active members of the group are staff scientists, trainees (postdocs and graduate students) and technicians. Among the scientists there are astrophysicists with strong expertise in general stellar evolution in its final stages: white dwarfs, novae and supernovae of type Ia. They use large telescopes and both X and gamma rays satellites for the diagnostics of the theoretical models. In addition, some members of the group have a strong background in nuclear and particle physics. Their research is aimed at connecting the macroscopic microscopic studies, so as to understand the physics of compact stellar objects from its tiniest constituents. Also there are participating engineers working in instrumentation (CdTe detectors) for gamma ray astronomy. The group has been involved in the feasibility study of several missions for high-E astrophysics and now leads an instrument of the eXTP X-ray mission. The non active members got their PhD and/or did postdoctoral research in the group.
