Nanomedicine for Therapeutic Applications (NM4T)

The NM4T group develops new therapeutic strategies based on nanotechnology. We work with synthetic nanoparticles and extracellular vesicles (EV) that: i) protect the active ingredient, ii) direct it to the organ, tissue, and cell type where it is most needed (improving its biodistribution), and iii) expand its therapeutic window. Our goal is to improve the treatment of various pathologies, mainly cancer and a group of rare diseases known as lysosomal storage diseases (LSD). In all these cases, the unmet clinical needs are significant, and the development of new therapeutic options is urgent. One of the distinctive features of our group is the use of specific cellular models for each pathology, gene, or process under study, the incorporation of the study of the immune system, and the support of artificial intelligence strategies for optimizing nanomedicine design, synthesis and production.
