The Mediterranean and the Crown of Aragon in the Middle Ages: History, Language and Culture (MECA)


Research group devoted to historical and philological studies concerning the territories of the former Crown of Aragon and their projection in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic during the Middle Ages. The investigations carried out by its members basically focus on the analysis of documentary and literary sources, taking particular advantage of the exceptional historical archives preserved in Catalonia for the medieval period. The group is divided in three main lines of research: 1) The Crown of Aragon, the Islam and the Medieval Mediterranean world; 2) Taxation and public finances in the origin of the Modern State: the case of the Crown of Aragon (13th-15th centuries); 3) Latin and Romance language in the Medieval Mediterranean: about the “Glossarium Mediae Latinitatis Cataloniae”.
