Emerging diversities in Islam, Africa and Europe (DIVERSE)


This Anthropology Research Group is composed by two Senior researchers, Yolanda Aixelà-Cabré and Bernhard Bleibinger, and one Tenured scientist (Cristina Enguita, pending appointment). The three experts' objective is to advance the study of contemporary social and cultural diversity in Islam, Africa, and Europe, from a gender perspective, with special attention to five geographical areas: North Africa-Maghreb and central Africa (Morocco, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea: Aixelà), Southern and East Africa (South Africa, Tanzania : Bleibinger), West Africa (Cameroon, Sierra Leone: Enguita), and Western Europe (Spain, Germany, and France: Aixelà, Bleibinger, and Enguita). Its members also have extensive experience in other African countries such as Niger, DR Congo, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Madagascar. The Group has had the support of the Senior Scientist Araceli González Vázquez (2017-2025), two JdCs, two Fullbright researchers, and stays of various experts and researchers.
