Electronic Excitations in Surfaces and Nanostructures Group

This research-line is focused into the electronic and magnetic properties of solids, surfaces and low-dimensional systems. We are especially concerned with the systems of nanometer size. Our research represents an attempt to deal with the electronic properties of the ground state. On the other hand we also deal with the electronic response of materials under different perturbations i.e. different experimental probes. We shall focus attention on the very large systems (bulk) and the very small ones (layers and clusters). We discuss how these limits of condensed matter can occur and the way in which size, border and dimensionality change the description of nanosized materials. It turns out that state-of-art research activity is needed in such electronic properties at the microscopic and mesoscopic scales, namely total energy calculations and attosecond electron dynamics. In research we shall be guided by developing ab-initio codes by members of our group.
