FPU2025 - Novel therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative diseases

PhD Offer The Institute for Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia is seeking a motivated predoctoral candidate. The research will focus on understanding the molecular basis of a specific set of neurodegenerative diseases and exploring potential therapeutic alternatives. Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a group of rare hereditary neurodegenerative diseases characterized by an accumulation of lysosomal deposits. Currently, they have no cure, and affected children usually die prematurely within a few years. This project aims to address this challenge by developing a platform combining medicinal and biological chemistry, drug screening, cellular studies, and mass-based lipidomic analysis. The proposed scientific program supports this goal by training the PhD candidate in the following disciplines: organic synthesis, biochemical and cellular screening and mass-based spectrometry, and working closely with other members of the group and internal and external collaborators. Scientific training will be complemented with training in transversal and soft skills, data management, and career development.
