Enrique Gutiérrez Ríos

In 1957 he took over the chair at the University of Madrid, and held the positions of Dean of the Faculty of Sciences (1963-1964) and Vice-chancellor (1964-1967).

His scientific life was closely linked to the CSIC since its inception, and he held various  positions at the institution including various responsibilities on the "Alonso de Herrera" and "Alfonso the Wise” Boards of Trustees, director of the Zaidín Experimental Station in Granada (1954-1957) and of the "Elhuyar"  Institute of Organic Chemistry (1983-4) and Vice President of the CSIC (1967-1971).

He also held positions of responsibility at other public and private scientific institutions: President of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry and Physics (1966-1970), President of the National Council of Education (1968) and member of the Advisory Commission on Scientific and Technical Research.

We was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Granada (1972).

He also received the Francisco Franco (1966) and José María Albareda (1969) Science Awards.  He was a member of the Royal Academies of Pharmacy (1983) and of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences (1985).

He held the Grand Cross of the Civil Order of Alfonso X the Wise (1964).
