Sedimentary Systems and Climate Variability

The Sedimentary Systems and Climate Variability Group aims to obtain paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental information from the sedimentary rock record. Paleoenvironmental studies are focused on different regions (from local to global) and time scales (from decades to millions of years) using different types of stratigraphic, petrologic, sedimentologic and geochemical analysis, with special emphasis on sudden changes with large biologic and environmental impacts. Past climates and environment research, its variability and consequences have a different applications to problems such as present-day global climatic change and its foreseeable consequences, contributing to design of strategies on the mitigation of the associated risks.
