The Plant Development Genetics Group (DEVOLEG)

In recent years, the MBG-CSIC has made notable advances in genetics and improvement of crops of agricultural interest, in aspects that affect plant growth, as well as the production and quality of the crop, and its adaptation to the environment. The biological basis of the improvement of these agronomic traits is found in the genetic regulation of the molecular and physiological mechanisms involved in vegetative and reproductive development, in order to make the plant an organism well adapted to the new environmental conditions and agricultural practices, as an essential component of a resilient and sustainable agriculture faced with the challenges of climate change mitigation. Among them, the architecture of the plant, the flowering, the development and maturation of the fruit and the satthering of the seed, are important milestones in the current conceptual framework of genetics and plant genomics, and are research objectives of DEVOLEG.
