Nucleosides and analogues as a source of bioactive molecules

The research group, founded in 1989, is composed, among others, by 6 permanent staff members. Carries out highly innovative, multidisciplinary, and cutting-edge research in the field of Medical Chemistry. Develops the line "New chemical entities for drug discovery: design, Synthesis, study and optimization" in various therapeutic fields, whose global objective is to obtain new effective and selective molecules against diseases caused by different pathogens (viruses, parasites, bacteria) and against cancer, that interact with new therapeutic targets and/or through novel approaches against known targets. The training of personnel (TFGs, TFMs, doctors, FPs and technicians) is another of the pillars of the group together with the excellence of our national and international collaborators. The group's trajectory in the field of AIDS was recognized in 2001 with the DESCARTES AWARD granted by the European Union for the excellence of research in collaboration with European groups.
