Molecular Sieves Group

The main scientific activity of the Group focuses on sustainable chemistry, centered in the synthesis, characterization and applications of zeolite and nanoporous materials as catalysts in the production of fuels with low carbon footprint and high-added value chemicals, and the improvement of conventional energy and chemicals production processes, involving refining and petrochemistry, engineered for low environmental impact and optimizing natural resources. A recent additional research line aims to develop processes to purify drinking water using natural zeolites. The multidisciplinary group has joined over the years specialists in materials chemistry and catalysis, transmission electron microscopy and computational chemistry, and also integrates enzyme catalysis and materials chemistry. One of its researchers is a member of the Department of Biocatalysis. It is characterized by a wide network of research collaborations, encompassing both national and international institutions.
