Marine Megafauna


Responsible of the Group, Natacha Aguilar de Soto (CO Canary Islands). Other members are Camilo Saavedra (CO Vigo) and in the near future Joan Jimenez (CO Málaga). The aim of the group is research on protected marine megafauna: mammals and in the future marine turtles and seabirds, as new expert members join the group. MEGAMAR is open to collaborations with experts on other megafauna groups, such as condrictians or cephalopods. The group performs pure research and research applied to species management for conservation, in a wide range of fields, including population biology and distribution, trophic ecology and behaviour, bioacoustics, biologging.. Group members advice regional, national and international entities on the conservation of the species and anthropic impacts, from fishery interactions, to acoustic pollution and others.
