INSECT VECTORS OF PLANT PATHOGENS

IVPP group focuses its research in the field of pathogen-vector-plant interactions, biology, behavior and control of insects transmitting plant pathogens, their epidemiology and integrated pest management. Since 1990, the group's activity has been focused on the transmission and epidemiology of viruses transmitted by insects, however, due to the emergence of important plant diseases caused by bacteria transmitted by vectors, new collaborations have been established to study the epidemiology of highly relevant phytopathogenic bacteria, such as Candidatus Liberibacter spp (Greening / Zebra chip) and Xylella fastidiosa. The group is one of the worldwide leaders in the use of the EPG technique and insect vector research and occupies a very good scientific position at the international level. IVPP group also participates in numerous transfer and outreach activities and it has been recognized for its contributions through several awards
