Ecotoxicology, Ecophysiology and Biodiversity of Aquatic Systems

Activities of the research group are focused on the study of biodiversity of aquatic systems, from molecular to population levels, as well as their responses to environmental stress related to global change. The group focuses on the study of marine biogeochemical cycles in both coastal and oceanic areas. Current research projects are focused on: a) environmental behavior and effect of emerging pollutants in organisms from different trophic levels; b) studies of marine coastal pollution; c) studies of atmospheric events and its role on the marine phytoplankton; d) CO2 release processes from submarine sink reservoirs and their effects on biota; e) CO2 bio-capture processes by marine microalgae; f) use of molecular techniques for identification of larval stages of decapod crustaceans; and g) study of genetic diversity and effective size of bivalve mollusk populations.
