Crystallography

The research of the Crystallography group is devoted to the development and applications of diffraction methods in materials science. The activity is focused on X-ray diffraction, including synchrotron radiation, with some contributions to neutron and electron diffraction. It must be highlighted the development of new methodologies for the solution of the phase problem in crystallography that have been successfully applied to the analysis of powder and single crystal diffraction data. It must be also highlighted the research about the relationship between the topology of the electron density and the bonding energy, which allows the collection of additional information in experimental electron density studies, and the studies about nano-objects for applications in magnetism and catalysis. The group participates in a large number of national and international collaborations, and it has been involved several research projects with private corporations.
