Biocatalysis and Bioenergy Group (BBG)

BBG develops new selective biocatalytic processes using immobilized enzymes in both, continuous and batch reactors. BBG investigates the synthesis of hihg value products (food additives with therapeutic properties, structured lipids and phospholipids - rich in n-3 and n-6 PUFA- of emulsifiers, mono- and diacylglycerides, sugar esters, polyols, amines, alpha-hydroxyacids and biodiesel). BBG develops enzyme assisted extraction methods of bioactive compounds. BBG has wide experience in the most relevant methodologies used in biocatalysis: enzyme immobilization and stabilization methods, reaction and reactor engineerings. Scaling up. BBG group belongs to the net of laboratories of Madri+D. BBG liderates national and international scientific consortia for the evaluation and demonstration of functional properties of new oil formulations for patient with obesity, cholesterol, methabolic syndrom, diabetes, hipertension, cancer, pregnant, new born and old population.
