Greek Linguistics
The Group of Greek Linguistics (GLG) works in different fields and aspects of Greek linguistics: phonetics, morphology, syntax, pragmatics, etymology, semantics and lexicography. We handle that data from its origins, with the support of Indo-European linguistics, to those of modern Greek, with special emphasis on the Greek sources of the 1st millennium BC. and of the first centuries of our era.
We rely on the combined study of literary and documentary sources, such as the corpus of papyri, which provide a great diversity of linguistic records that can be compared comparatively with structures of other languages. Methodologically, the group is based on 1) Approaches to cognitive and functional linguistics, as well as linguistic typology. 2) Application of techniques and principles of Digital Humanities (especially computational linguistics) that have been decisive in recent years for the work with the linguistic corpus of all kinds.
