Biogeografía ecológica integrativa

The Group of Integrative Ecological Biogeography (BIE) is the largest research group of the newly formed Department of Biogeography and Global Change. Their researchers study the processes behind the distribution, abundance, variation, colonization and extinction of species and lineages, and the structure and organization of their communities from the perspective of organismal biology. Such perspective involves studying a number of processes at the population and individual level, including ecophysiological, ecomorphological, demographic and behavioral aspects, as well as habitat preferences and use of space, the effects of emerging diseases and interactions with other species (both native and invasive). We focus on functional mechanisms rather than on mere descriptions of patterns, analyzing the variation within and between species or other phylogenetic units and, using this knowledge for making conservation or management recommendations in the context of global changes.
