PIX2025 - Help build the CNB’s Biofoundry (BIOFOUNDRY) - (PREX2023-000052)
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate with a strong background in biotechnology or bioengineering—particularly with skills in automation, programming, or lab robotics—to help establish the CNB Biofoundry: cutting-edge infrastructure designed to tackle scientific challenges beyond current capabilities by leveraging laboratory automation and artificial intelligence.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the design and implementation of an advanced facility for synthetic biology research. The successful candidate will work at the interface of engineering and biology, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to integrate high-throughput workflows, implement community standards (e.g. SBOL, SEVA), and develop scalable solutions for biotechnological innovation.
The position offers an excellent training environment with strong international visibility, exposure to state-of-the-art technologies, and the chance to develop highly valued interdisciplinary skills in a fast-evolving research field.
Recommended knowledge for the development of the project includes:
• Programming in Python and working with AI models (LLMs).
• Knowledge of databases and machine learning algorithms.
• Automation of laboratory processes.
• Techniques in molecular biology and microbiology.
