GENETICS OF PHYTOBACTERIAL INFECTIONS

The interest of the group focuses on the identification of molecular mechanisms that allow the establishment of bacterial infections in plants. We investigate several aspects related to bacterial life on surfaces using the Sinorhizobium meliloti-Medicago sativa interaction as a model system and a multidisciplinary approach that involves the use of bacterial genetics and Omics technologies. We intend to acquire cutting-edge basic knowledge that will also facilitate the development of agrobiotechnological solutions aimed at the control of phytopathogens and/or the production of biofertilizers/biostimulants, which would reduce the use of agrochemicals, favoring the development of a sustainable agriculture.
