Service description
The 490 Micro GC (Agilent) instrument is a miniaturized version of a gas chromatograph that permits the quantitative analysis of low molecular weight compounds. Its primary advantage is the speed of analysis (typically the duration of the chromatographic analysis is below 100 seconds), versatility (the parallel use of 3 chromatographic columns allows for an analysis of different gases in a single run) and commodity (the reduced size of the instrument permits laboratory as well as in situ field analyses, although this last option is not yet available). Compounds will be identified by comparison with the corresponding standards. The minimalistic technology of this instrument permits the injection of small sample amounts such as 10 µl and its sensitivity allows compound detection in the lower ppm range. The three columns included are Molsieve 5Å 10 m, PoraPlot U 10 m y CP-Sil 5 CB 6 m columns, that permit the analysis of a wide range of compounds such as permanent atmospheric gases (capable of separating N2 from O2), methane, CO, natural gas, biogas, hydrocarbons of up to C10, aromatic compounds, organic solvents, SO2, halogenated compounds, SH2, ethylene, acetylene or N2O. In addition, there exists the possibility of including a fourth column and in this way to broaden the analyte range.
